The nine passions

The idea of the deadly sins, ie, the passions, it is best understood if we do not give a sense of the word evil to sin and consider only the tendency to "miss the point" in a way. Passions represent the nine main ways to distort the way we feel, think and do.

1. THE ANGER

This passion could best be described as resentment. Anger or rage Expressed is not the problem, but the type of one is repressed, which leads to constant frustration, to be dissatisfied with themselves and the world.

2. ARROGANCE

Arrogance is the inability or unwillingness to recognize their own suffering. The type of Two refuse many of their needs while they try to "help" others. This passion could also be vainglory, pride in one's own virtue.

3. FALSENESS

The falsehood I understood as the belief that we are only ego. When we strive to develop the ego instead of developing our true nature. This passion is also called vanity, the intent of making the ego feel valued without recourse to our source
spiritual.

4. ENVY

Envy is based on the feeling that it is missing something essential. Envy takes the four to think that others have qualities of they lack. The Four yearn for what they lack and do not see the many goods that are in their lives.

5. AVARICE

The Five believe that lack of inner resources and a relationship too intense with others will lead them to catastrophic depletion. This passion leads them to abstain from contact with the world and cling to their resources and minimize their needs.

6. COWARDICE

This passion can be defined more accurately as anxiety because anxiety leads to fear things that are not happening. The Six live in a constant state of apprehension and worry about possible future events.

7. GULA

Gluttony refers to the insatiable desire to "fill" of experiences. The Seven try to overcome the feeling of emptiness making numerous ideas and positive activities and stimulating, but they never feel that they have enough.

8. LUST

Lust does not refer only to sexual desire. Tthe Eight are "lewd" in the sense that it impels them a constant need of vehemence, dominance and expansion. Lust is the cause of the Eight try tackle it all in life, to prevail with voluntariness.

9. SLOTH

Sloth is not simply laziness, as the Nine can be very active and skillful. It refers rather to the desire not to be affected for life. It is a renunciation of get up to full vitality to surrender fully to life.
